Seraph Brass, an ensemble of America’s top female brass players, closes out the ninth season for Chamber Music on the Fox with a concert entitled, “Colors of Brass” on Sunday, April 30, and Monday, May 1. The April 30 concert will be held at New England Congregational Church, 406 W. Galena Blvd. in Aurora. The Ashbury, 1 Douglas Avenue in Elgin is the location for the May 1 concert. Both concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 for adult in-person and virtual viewing, $15 for in-person student tickets, and are available at www.ChamberMusicOnTheFox.org.

Seraph Brass pushes the boundaries on the capabilities of their instruments for an exhilarating night of classical favorites and groovy new music. Led by founding member and artistic director Mary Elizabeth Bowden, who grew up in New Lenox and is a Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra alumnus, these renowned musicians easily transition from Grieg, Verdi, Tchaikovsky, Liszt, and Clara Schumann, to works by modern composers including Kevin Day, David Chesky, Kevin McKee, Reena Esmail, Catherine McMichael, and Anthony DiLorenzo.

The ensemble won the 2019 American Prize in Chamber Music, and has performed at the International Trumpet Guild Conference, Busan Maru Music Festival in South Korea, the International Women’s Brass Conference, and the Lieksa Brass Week in Finland. The group’s debut album, Asteria, released on Summit Records, won the Silver Medal Global Music Award. Seraph Brass members have shared the stage with pop stars such as Adele and The Hanson Brothers, and with symphonies and orchestras in the U.S. and abroad.

Joining trumpeter Bowden in the Chamber Music on the Fox concert is Jean Laurenz, a Mount Prospect native who spent several seasons during her college years as Arlington Park’s bugler. Laurenz is currently the assistant professor of trumpet at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Rachel Velvikis, on horn, has accumulated a myriad of musical encounters in her almost 20 years as a professional musician, including touring with Mannheim Steamroller and playing with Amy Grant, the Indigo Girls, and Natalie Merchant, among others. Cristina Cutts Doughtery, tuba, was the 2016 Young Artist winner of the International Tuba & Euphonium Competition. Guest artist Hillary Simms is a Juno nominated freelance trombonist from Torbay, Newfoundland and Labrador.

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Chamber Music on the Fox is a world class chamber music series serving the Fox valley region with engaging, enriching, and immersive live performances.
